Finding Overseas Jobs

Have you been wondering how to conduct an international job search?

Working overseas is an exciting opportunity and one that is being increasingly sought by job seekers, especially students. Unfortunately, many people find the process of overseas job hunting confusing and complex. The solution is to do careful research prior to beginning the job-search process.

Searching for an international job is much like searching for a local position. It involves planning and effort; as many people say, "Looking for a job is a job in itself." Job hunting can cause tension and anxiety, so it helps to think of the search as a challenge and a great learning experience. Before undertaking your job search, be sure to read as much available information as you can and perform the necessary research to maximize your job search opportunities.

There are some unique aspects to an international job search. The market is extremely competitive. Some job seekers will land jobs with ease, while others will need to be persistent and thorough to get the job they desire. In order to be successful, you must be persistent.

Here are some important points to consider and/or research before you begin your search:

  • Foreign language skills
  • Networking application procedures
  • Overseas experience
  • Differences in resumes and correspondence between your country and others
  • Interviewing
  • Passports
  • Visas and work permits
  • Salaries, taxes, and the cost of living
  • Health concerns when traveling internationally
  • Transportation
  • Women's opportunities in their fields.

Finding employment is not the only way to expand your overseas professional experience and job skills. Studying and traveling while you are overseas can be great ways to follow your interests while you gain credentials that a potential employer will value.

A powerful resume = job interviews = job offers!
